Lakers Help with Salvation Army Bell Ringing Campaign

Student-Athletes at Finger Lakes Community College took time out of their busy schedules to volunteer for the Salvation Army this past Wednesday and Thursday.

In an event sponsored by the Student-Athlete Advisory Board, the Lakers joined with the 2014 Red Kettle Campaign, ringing bells outside of the Wal-Mart in Canandaigua.

"Community service efforts demonstrate positive relationships when one removes the individual vision," said Student-Athlete Advisory Board President and cross country runner Adam Thorman. "We, as the Student-Athletes of FLCC, support meaningful values for the community, representing team-efforts even if its fulfilled by one person at a time. I am proud of their selfless efforts to support the Salvation Army by truly 'Doing the most good.'"

Having a positive impact on the community is a part of the Finger Lakes CC Athletic Department Mission Statement. "Our program strives to instill the values of leadership and citizenship" to all student-athletes.

"I am proud of the Student-Athlete Advisory Board and our entire department for supporting the Salvation Army," said Director of Athletics Bob Lowden. "We had members of the board as well as multiple teams come out in the cold to help raise money for a good cause."

The Finger Lakes Community College Student-Athlete Advisory Board (SAAB) is made up of student-athlete representatives, and is a vehicle to promote communication between the athletic administration and student-athletes. The Student-Athlete Advisory Board serves in an advisory capacity to the Athletic Department, providing a student-athlete voice within the department, discussing issues and concerns, and providing feedback as necessary. Each member serves as a liaison between the committee and his or her team.
