Lakers Swept by Tribunes

ROCHESTER, NY -- The Finger Lakes Baseball team fell to Monroe Community College on Thursday in a doubleheader at Tribune Field in Rochester, NY. The Lakers lost the first game 9-1 and fell in the second game 2-1. Finger Lakes is now 6-8 on the season.

The Lakers fell behind early in Game 1. Monroe scored the first five runs of the game and led 5-0 after three innings. Max Franzone got a one out single in the fourth for the Lakers. He moved to second on a Matt Weinberg single and was singled home by Ryan  Juergens. That would be all the scoring in the game though for Finger Lakes as they went on to lose to the Tribunes, 9-1.

Max Franzone had a pair of hits for Finger Lakes. Kevin Close took the loss on the mound. The starter went three innings, allowing six hits and five runs. Dalton Murray struck out two in two innings of relief for the Lakers.

Game 2 got off with Monroe pushing across the first run of the game. Trailing 1-0 in the fourth inning, Finger Lakes got on the board thanks to a leadoff bunt single by Max Franzone. He was bunted to second by Kenny Urbanik and scored when Matt Weinberg hit a double down the right field line. Ryan Juergens followed that up with a single, but the Lakers would strand the runners at the corners and the game remained tied. Monroe would answer that with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning. Derick Fera would keep the Tribunes off balance all game, but Finger Lakes could not push another run across, losing 2-1.

Fera took the loss, but allowed just five hits over six innings. He struck out three Monroe batters. Kane Shaw had a pair of hits for Finger Lakes.

The Lakers will open Mid-State Athletic Conference play this Saturday as they host the Cannoneers of Jefferson Community College. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1pm.
