Lakers Baseball Falls in Doubleheader

CUMBERLAND, MD -- The Finger Lakes Baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Allegany College of Maryland on Monday by the scores of 4-3 and 11-5.

Finger Lakes now holds a 1-3 record early in the season. The Lakers are back in action tomorrow as they take on Frederick Community College in a single nine-inning game at 1pm.

Cole Tracy had the big blast for the Lakers in Game 1. He hit his first collegiate home run in the game and drove in a pair of runs. Kevin VanDongen and Alan Rombkowski each pitched an inning of scoreless relief in the loss.

Braxton Wilson went 3-3 for the Lakers in Game 2. Mark Davis and Max Franzone each added a pair of hits. Franzone drove in a pair of runs on his first home run of the season. In their first collegiate outings, Jesse Steeves and Elliott Austin combined for three perfect innings of relief.

The Lakers would fall behind 1-0 early, but Braxton Wilson doubled and then scored on a passed ball to tie the game at 1-1. Cole Tracy would give the Lakers a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning with his first collegiate home run. The freshman took a 3-1 pitch and sent it over the left centerfield fence. Allegany would answer and score 3 unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-2 lead. Caden Giroux led off the sixth with a walk and stole second base. He came around to score, but it would be all the Lakers could get as they would lose to Allegany 4-3 in Game 1.

In Game 2, the Lakers offense was able to manage just one big inning. Matt Ashley led the fourth inning off with a walk and the Lakers trailing 11-0. He moved to second on a single by Braxton Wilson can scored on a Mark Davis single. Wilson also scored on the play as the throw got away from Allegany's third baseman. Isaiah Merced brought Davis in on a fielders choice. With two outs and Connor Truitt on first, Max Franzone took one deep over the right centerfield fence for a two-run home run, making the score 11-5. The Lakers bullpen kept Allegany off the scoreboard after the second inning, but it was enough as Allegany College of Maryland defeated Finger Lakes 11-5 in Game 2.
