Lakers Top Thomas Nelson 14-2

NEWPORT NEWS, VA -- Sam McCumiskey struck out 11 batters in his first start for the Lakers as Finger Lakes defeated Thomas Nelson Community College 14-2 on Wednesday night.

Finger Lakes improves to 2-4 on the season. They will be back in action with a pair of games in Newport News on Thursday. They will take on the College of St. Joseph's at 10:30am at Heritage High School and then face Thomas Nelson again at 6pm.

McCumiskey allowed just two hits and one run over his five innings of work. Dalton Murray went 3-3 for Finger Lakes and drove in a pair of runs. Max Franzone also drove in a pair of runs. Franzone, Caden Giroux, and Jon Warner all had two hits on the night. As a team, Finger Lakes pounded out a season-high 11 hits.

The Lakers push the opening run across in the first inning when Max Franzone scored on a passed ball. Braxton Wilson led the second off with a single. He stole second and scored on a Dalton Murray bunt single that was thrown away. Caden Giroux singled for Finger Lakes and scored on a Jon Warner single. Cole Tracy plated the final run of the inning as he plated Warner on a single. The Lakers used a good eye and timely hitting to grow their lead in the later innings. Max Franzone drove in Giroux and Warner on a double in the fourth. Dalton Murray drove in two runs in the sixth inning with a single as a part of an eight run inning for Finger Lakes. The Lakers used that big inning to force the 10 run rule on their way to the 14-2 victory.
