Baseball Splits in Virginia

NEWPORT NEWS, VA -- The Finger Lakes Community College Baseball team split a pair of games in Virginia on Thursday as a part of their spring break trip. The Lakers defeated the College of St. Joseph's 13-2 in the morning, but lost to Thomas Nelson CC 13-7 under the lights Thursday night.

Finger Lakes now holds a 3-5 record on the season. They will start to head north on their spring trip on Friday. The Lakers will take on Westmoreland County Community College in a doubleheader in Youngwood, PA on Friday afternoon.

Caden Giroux had three hits including a double and drove in a pair of runs in the opening game. Danny Goodbread went 2-2 and was onbase all four times with a pair of walks. Dalton Murray had a career-high three RBIs for the Lakers bringing home one run on a suicide squeeze and two more on a single. Ryan Landers earned his second win of the season on the mound. 

Finger Lakes fell behind earlier in the nightcap before battling back to tie the game at 6-6 after the sixth inning. The Lakers were outscored, however, 7-1 in the final three innings. Jon Warner and Mark Davis had multi-hit games for Finger Lakes. Warner had three singles and Davis finished with a single, a double, and two runs batted in.
