Lakers No-Hit Utica in Doubleheader Sweep

CANANDAIGUA -- Austin Miller and Ryan Nadeau combined to no-hit the Pioneers in Game 1 of a doubleheader sweep for Finger Lakes Community College over the JV team from Utica College. The Lakers won Game 1 11-1 and took the second game 9-3.

Finger Lakes improves to 7-9 with the sweep. The Lakers will be back in action next week as they take on SUNY Broome Community College to open regional play. Finger Lakes will travel to Binghamton, NY on Tuesday before hosting the Hornets on Thursday.

Austin Miller (1-2) got the start in Game 1. He allowed an unearned run in the first inning and held the Pioneers at bay after that. He struck out six batters in four innings of work. Ryan Nadeau pitched a perfect fifth inning with a strikeout for Finger Lakes. The Lakers ended the game in the bottom of the fifth with a walkoff RBI by Connor Truitt to force the mercy rule.

Evan Santiago went 3-3 at the plate for the Lakers. Mark Davis also had a perfect day at the plate. He went 2-2 with a triple and three RBIs. Caden Giroux and Max Franzone each drove in a pair of runs for the Lakers.

Danny Goodbread led the Lakers at the plate in Game 2. He finished 4-4 with three RBIs and three stolen bases. The freshman finished the game a home runs short of hitting for the cycle. Mark Davis had another strong game hitting a double and a triple for Finger Lakes. Cameron Heasley and Marc Peterson also doubled in the game. On the mound, seven Laker pitchers combined to strike out eight Pioneers. Each pitcher recorded at least one strikeout and Cam Lueder (1-1) pitched a perfect inning to record the win.
