Baseball Falls at Onondaga

SYRACUSE, NY -- The Finger Lakes Baseball team dropped a Mid-State Athletic Conference and Region III West doubleheader on Saturday to Onondaga Community College by the scores of 8-7 and 5-4.

The Lakers are now 13-21 on the season. They hold a 5-3 record in Mid-State games and are 6-12 in the region. Onondaga improves to 18-16 overall and 13-9 in the region. The same two teams will square off again in Canandaigua on Sunday to complete the season series.

Max Franzone led Finger Lakes with three hits in Game 1. Caden Giroux and J.T. Angora added a pair of hits in the game. Angora's day included his first career triple. Giroux and Matt Weinberg drove in a pair of runs for the Lakers.

Caden Giroux once again had a pair of hits for Finger Lakes in Game 2. Cole Tracy delivered with a bases clearing double and Matt Weinberg added an RBI single. Alex Dent threw three perfect innings of relief for the Lakers.

The Lakers trailed 2-0 going into the third inning of Game 1. J.T. Angora led it off with a single. The next four Lakers would all get singles. Caden Giroux and Jon Warner each drove a run in. Matt Weinberg later brought a run in on a groundout to give Finger Lakers a 3-2 lead. They added to it in the fourth. Mark Davis and Braxton Wilson walked. They were plated on RBI singles by Max Franzone and Caden Giroux, making it 5-2. Finger Lakes added single runs in the fifth and the sixth, however, Onondaga rallied for six in the bottom of the sixth to come back and take the opening game 8-7.

Onondaga got up on the Lakers again in Game 2 and led 5-0 going into the top of the sixth. Cam Heasley led the inning off with a single. With one out, Giroux singled and Jon Warner walked to load the bases. Cole Tracy took a 2-0 pitch off the right centerfield wall to clear the bases with a double. The next batter, Matt Weinberg, singled up the middle to score Tracy and make it 5-4. The Lazers were able to get the double play to get out of the inning. They then retired the Lakers in order in the seveth for the 5-4 victory and sweep.
