Lakers Drop Pair to Onondaga
CANANDAIGUA -- The Finger Lakes Baseball team lost a pair of games on Sunday to Onondaga Community College by the scores of 14-13 and 8-4.
The Lakers now sit at 13-23 on the season and are 6-14 in Region III play. Finger Lakes will play its final home game of the season on Tuesday as they welcome Tompkins Cortland Community College to Canandaigua for a 2pm doubleheader.
Max Franzone led the Lakers with three hits in the game. Cole Tracy, Mark Davis, and Dalton Murray also added a pair. Tracy had two doubles and Davis and Murray each hit a triple. Murray finished with a team-high four RBIs.
Franzone led in Game 2 as well with a pair of hits. He was the only Laker to have a multi-hit game. Richard Hurd allowed only one hit on the mound in his two innings of relief for the Lakers.
Finger Lakes allowed a run in the second, but bounced back to win the inning and take a 2-1 lead on RBI singles by Dalton Murray and Max Franzone. The Lakers added to their lead in the third.
Mark Davis singled home Cole Tracy. Dalton Murray then plated Matt Weinberg and Davis with the first triple of his career to give Finger Lakes a 5-1 advantage. The Lakers led 6-2 going into the top of the sixth inning before Onondaga struck for six runs to take an 8-6 lead. Finger Lakes did not go away. The first seven batters for the Lakers reached base and all scored. Big hits in the inning included a two-run single by Jon Warner, Cole Tracy's second RBI double of the game, and a two-run triple by Mark Davis. Dalton Murray scored Davis on a suicide squeeze to give the Lakers a 13-8 lead. Onondaga once again answered, however, as they scored six runs in the top of the seventh to defeat Finger Lakes 14-13.
The Lakers got out to an early lead in the nightcap as Max Franzone led off the bottom of the first with a double. He came around to score for the early 1-0 advantage. Onondaga answered with three in the second, but the Lakers would tie it back up in the third. Finger Lakes scored on a passed ball and a walked in run to tie the game at 3-3. Onondaga took a one run lead in the fourth, but the Lakers once again tied it in the fifth. Jon Warner led the inning off with a walk, stole second, and scored on a single by Matt Weinberg, making it 4-4. Onondaga countered with three runs in the sixth and an insurance run in the seventh as they continued on to sweep the Lakers by winning Game 2, 8-4.
