Lakers Split at Broome

BINGHAMTON, NY -- The Finger Lakes Baseball team split a Mid-State Athletic Conference and Region III West doubleheader on Saturday with SUNY Broome Community College. The Lakers took Game 1 11-4, but the Hornets won Game 2 by the score of 4-2.

The Lakers are now 18-24 on the season and 11-15 in Region III West play. Finger Lakes will play their final games of the regular season on Thursday when they travel to Corning to face the Red Barons.

Cole Tracy went a perfect 3-3 at the plate in Game 1 with a double. Caden Giroux also had three hits for the Lakers. Max Franzone, Jon Warner, J.T. Angora and Braxton Wilson all added multi-hit games as the Lakers totaled 18 hits on the day. Anthony Pagliaro (3-3) got the win on the mound for the Lakers.

Max Franzone had a pair of hits, including a triple, in Game 2 for Finger Lakes. Ryan Juergens added a pinch-hit RBI double in the seventh inning.

Finger Lakes got out to an early lead in Game 1 as Max Franzone led off with a triple and scored on a passed ball. Next up was Caden Giroux who singled, stole second, and went to third on a throwing error. Giroux scored on a Jon Warner sacrifice fly for an early 2-0 lead. Danny Goodbread and J.T. Angora led the second off with singles and scored on a double by Giroux, making it 4-0 Lakers. Broome got on the board with a run in the second, but the Lakers added to their lead in the fifth. With one out, Giroux and Warner singled. Cole Tracy singled to score Giroux. They scored on a double by Ryan Juergens. Mark Davis hit an RBI triple and scored on a Goodbread sacrifice fly to give Finger Lakes a 9-1 lead. The Hornets got three back in the bottom of the fifth, but the Lakers were in control of the game, on their way to the 11-5 victory.

The Lakers offense was held in check for most of Game 2 by the Hornets. Broome carried a 4-0 lead into the seventh inning. Pinch hitter Jon Warner led the inning off with a walk. After an out, Ryan Juergens delivered a pinch-hit RBI double to left centerfield to make it 4-1. With two outs, Franzone singled home pinch runner Connor Truitt. Finger Lakes would get the tying run on first base, but could not score him as they fell to the Hornets 4-2.
