Lakers Season Ends at Herkimer

HERKIMER, NY -- The Finger Lakes Baseball team was eliminated from the postseason on Saturday, losing to Herkimer College by the scores of 9-2 and 13-3.

The Lakers end the season with a 20-26 record. 

Cole Tracy had a pair of hits in Game 1 for the Lakers. He drove in on of the runs and Ryan Juergens plated the other on a sacrifice fly. Jon Warner and Danny Goodbread also had hits for the Lakers.

Danny Goodbread and Cam Heasley each had doubles in Game 2. Heasley's hit plated two Laker runs. Cole Tracy had a pair of hits for Finger Lakes and drove in a run.

The Lakers got on the board first in Game 1. Max Franzone led the game off with a walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Caden Giroux. A single to left field by Jon Warner left runners at the corners with one out. Cole Tracy singled home Franzone and Warner moved to third. He scored when the next batter, Ryan Juergens, hit a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0. Herkimer responded with four runs in the bottom of the first and two more in the second for the 6-2 lead over the Lakers. The Generals held Finger Lakes to just two hits the rest of the game as they defeated the Lakers 9-2.

Finger Lakes once again got on the board first in Game 2. Franzone led if off with a bunt single. He moved to second on a groundout. With two outs, Cole Tracy singled up the middle to give the Lakers a 1-0 lead. Herkimer got on the board in the third with a pair of runs, but the Lakers answered. Ryan Juergens started the inning out with a strikeout, but reached first on a dropped third strike. With one out, Danny Goodbread doubled down the right field line and Juergens moved to third. They scored on a two out double by Cam Heasley to give the Lakers a 3-2 lead. The Generals took the lead back in the bottom of the inning with two more runs to make it 4-3. The Lakers threatened in the fifth, but was unable to push a run across. Herkimer scored nine runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to end the game and top the Lakers 13-3.
