Baseball Drops DH to MCC

HENRIETTA, N.Y. — The Finger Lakes Community College baseball team traveled to face Monroe Community College Monday afternoon in a rescheduled doubleheader, and the Lakers lost both games to the Tribunes.

FLCC (7-7) lost by scores of 9-5 in game one and 13-3 in game two vs. the Tribunes (12-4).

Trailing 5-0 heading to the top of the third inning in the opener, the Lakers' bats broke through for four runs. Sophomore Devin Kelly (Clifton Springs, NY/Midlakes) hit a two-run single and sophomore Zach Harter (Rochester, NY/Rush Henrietta) added a two-run double to fuel the scoring outburst for FLCC.

The Lakers pulled even at 5-all on an RBI triple from freshman Jordan Perry (Pembroke Pines, FL/Saint Thomas Aquinas) in the top of the fourth, but the Tribunes pushed across two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings and held the Lakers scoreless over the final three frames to take game one.

Kelly was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, sophomore Lukas Haefner (Henrietta, NY/Rush Henrietta) was 2-for-4 with a run scored, and freshman Tim McClare (Macedon, NY/Gananda) was 2-for-3 with a run scored in the opener.

In the second game, MCC took a 5-0 lead into the fifth until Kelly smashed an RBI triple and scored on an error to pull the Lakers within 5-2, but that was as close as FLCC would get.

Freshman Alfredo Hurtado (Davie, FL/Caminade-Madonna College Preparatory) went 2-for-3 with a run scored, and Kelly, freshman Jim Marasco (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) and sophomore Sam Messana (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) each drove in a run for the Lakers.

FLCC hits the road for a Tuesday afternoon doubleheader at Corning Community College. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
