Game 2 Rally Comes Up Short as Baseball Falls to Erie CC

ERIE, N.Y. — The Finger Lakes Community College baseball team dropped both games of Saturday afternoon's doubleheader at Erie Community College.

FLCC (9-9) fell by scores of 5-1 and 18-8 in six innings vs. the Kats (8-8).

Freshman Grant Rodriguez (Henrietta, NY/Rush Henrietta) drove in the Lakers' lone run in the opener on a third inning sacrifice fly. Freshman Jorge Oropeza (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) went 1-for-2 with a run scored, sophomore Devin Kelly (Clifton Springs, NY/Midlakes) doubled, and freshman Drew Bailey (Pittsford, NY/McQuaid Jesuit) added a single in the game one loss for FLCC.

Sophomore Quin Ignazsak (Brockport, NY/Brockport) took the loss, allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits and no walks over six innings.

Rodriguez plated Oropeza on his sacrifice fly to pull the Lakers within 3-1 in the top of the third. The score remained that way until ECC tacked on two runs in the bottom of the sixth to prevail in the opener.

In the nightcap, the Lakers trailed 8-0 after two innings and 10-1 going into the fifth before mounting a furious comeback attempt. Bailey hit an RBI single, sophomore Zach Harter (Rochester, NY/Rush Henrietta) delivered a bases-clearing double, and freshman Lucas Sulimowicz (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) added an RBI double as part of a seven-run fifth to pull FLCC within 10-8.

But the Kats broke through for three runs in the bottom of the frame and tacked on five more in the sixth to clinch the sweep.

Rodriguez finished 2-for-2 with a solo home run and two runs scored, Harter was 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored, and freshman Tommy Barber (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) went 2-for-2 with a run scored for FLCC in game two.

These two teams were scheduled to play Sunday afternoon at FLCC, but those games have been postponed until Monday afternoon. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
