Hurtado's Walk-Off Single Helps Baseball Sweep Erie CC

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. — Freshman Alfredo Hurtado (Davie, FL/Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory) singled down the right field line in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Finger Lakes Community College baseball team rallied from a 5-0 deficit in game two to sweep Tuesday afternoon's doubleheader with Erie Community College.

Hutardo's single scored freshman Jordan Perry (Pembroke Pines, FL/Saint Thomas Aquinas) with the winning run to lift the Lakers (11-9) to a walk-off win, 6-5, after FLCC captured the opener by a 5-1 score over the Kats (8-10).

Scoreless heading to the bottom of the third of game one, freshman Drew Bailey (Pittsford, NY/McQuaid Jesuit) drew a bases-loaded walk for a 1-0 lead, before classmate Grant Rodriguez (Henrietta, NY/Rush Henrietta) cleared the bases with a double down the left field line as the Lakers took a 4-0 lead.

ECC got a run back in the fourth inning, but sophomore Zach Harter (Rochester, NY/Rush Henrietta) reclaimed the Lakers' four-run lead on an RBI single through the right side of the infield in the bottom of the fifth, and neither team would score again.

Freshman Trevor Robinson (Bloomfield, NY/Bloomfield) allowed only one run on five hits with three strikeouts over six innings to earn the win in game one.

The Lakers fell behind 5-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth of the nightcap, but Bailey hit an RBI triple down the right field line to score sophomore Lukas Haefner (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) and get FLCC on the scoreboard. Bailey then scored on a wild pitch as the Lakers pulled within 5-2 heading into the sixth.

FLCC would tie the score in the home half of the sixth. Haefner hit an RBI single through the left side of the infield that scored both freshman Ryan Smith (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) and freshman Ryan C. Smith (Fairport, NY/Fairport), and sophomore Devin Kelly (Clifton Springs, NY/Midlakes) laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Haefner and pull the Lakers even at 5.

Haefner worked around a two-out single in the seventh to set the stage for FLCC's walk-off win. He tossed two scoreless innings of one-hit relief, striking out two to earn the victory.

Bailey was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, and Haefner was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, an RBI, and a stolen base for FLCC.

FLCC hosts Cayuga Community College Wednesday afternoon in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
