Lakers Split Doubleheader on Second Day in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH - The Finger Lakes Community College Baseball team played their 2nd and 3rd games of their series at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. In a rematch against the Senators of SUNY Ulster, the Lakers fell in a close 3-2 game. The Lakers followed their loss up with a win to close out the day over Bergen Community College, coming away with a 3-2 victory.

In the first game, the Lakers struggled to get runs on the board, however, one Laker enjoyed a productive outing. Justin Marshall (Bath, N.Y./ Haverling) had 2 hits and poked in 2 RBIs for the Lakers lone scored runs of the game. Jake Conklin (Fairport, N.Y./ Fairport) went for 4.1 innings, striking out 4 batter, while unfortatunely suffering the loss, to push his record to 1-1 record on the season. Josh Ferris (North Chili, N.Y./ Churchville Chili) came on in relief, allowing 1 hit and striking out 1 batter for no runs scored on the game.

In the second game, the Lakers were able to edge the Bulldogs in a close matchup. Lukas Haefner (Rochester, N.Y./ Rush Henrietta) and Devin Kelly (Clifton Springs, N.Y./ Midlakes) each helped get the Lakers on the board, with 1 RBI apiece. Ryan Smith (Fairport, N.Y./ Fairport) enjoyed a productive day, with 2 hits and 1 RBI in the game. Tanner Frank (Rochester, N.Y./ Brighton) pitched a solid 6 innings, with 1 earned run on 5 hits. Frank struck out 6 batters in the process to pick up the win on the mound and push his season record to 2-0. Sean Peck (Dryden, N.Y./ Dryden) picked up a save in relief, walking 1 batter and allowing no hits in 1 inning.

The Lakers improve to 5-3 on the season and prepare for a doubleheader against the Garrett College Bulldogs at 3 PM and a 5:30 PM game against Ocean County Community College.
