Storch, Cerame Lead the Way in Doubleheader Sweep

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Finger Lakes Community College Baseball team followed up a 1-1 day with a 2-0 sweep over Garrett College and Bergen Community College Saturday afternoon. The Lakers earned a 6-4 victory of Garrett College, before following it up with a 7-6 win over Bergen Community College.

In the Lakers 1st of two, Nolan Storch (Elmira, N.Y./ Elmira) enjoyed a productive outing, with 3 RBIs in 4 at bats to lead the Lakers. Ryan Smith (Fairport, N.Y./ Fairport) and Devin Georgetti (Rochester, N.Y./ Gates Chili) eached batted in 1 RBI apiece, while Jorge Oropeza III (Rochester, N.Y./ Greece Athena) earned 1 RBI himself. Nicholas Franceschi (Geneva, N.Y./ Geneva) pitched a full 5 innings, striking out 5before Devin Kelly (Clifton Spring, N.Y./ Midlakes) was able to come in a secure the win for the Lakers on the mound. Josh Ferris (North Chili, N.Y./ Churchville Chili) came into the game in the 7th inning, facing 5 batters and allowing only 1 hit, good for a save.

The 2nd game of the doubleheader, the Lakers escaped with a 1-run victory over the Bulldogs, edging them 7-6. Like Starch in the 1st game, Tyler Cerame (Hilton, N.Y./ Hilton) stepped up to have a huge 3 RBI game for the Lakers in 4 at bats. Devin Kelly would enjoy a productive outing of his own, adding 2 RBIs, while teammates Tim McClare (Macedon, N.Y./ Gananda) and Kenny Murphy (Webster, N.Y./ Webster Schroeder) would each punch in 1 RBI apiece. McClare would also earn the start on the mound, facing 18 batters and striking out 4. Jeremy Hernandez (Weston, F.L./ Cypress Bay) would come into the game in the 7th inning, halting a Bulldog comeback and closing out the game for the win on the mound.

The Lakers will start their day tomorrow, March 20th with a rematch against the Bulldogs at 9 AM, followed by a matchup with Garrett College at 12 PM, where the Lakers will look to continue their hot streak and consistent play.
