Kats Hot Hitting Proves Decisive in Doubleheader

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College Baseball team was host to the visting Kats of Erie Community College Saturday March 26th. The Kats red hot hitting proved to be decisive in the Kats sweep, with the Lakers falling 4-1 and 17-4.

In the 1st of two, the Lakers battled back and forth with the Kats. The Kats would knock in a run at the top of the 2nd inning to take a 1-0 lead, from there, both teams would go scoreless for 3 innings, before Justin Marshall (Bath, N.Y./ Haverling) hit a 1 RBI single to bring teammate Lucas Sulimowicz (Rochester, N.Y./ Greece Athena) home for the tying run in the bottom of the 6th inning. However, the Kats would respond, knocking in 3 runs in the top of the 7th to come away with the 4-1 win.

In the 2nd game of the doubleheader, the Kats hot-hitting carried over from their last contest, scoring 9 runs in the top of the 1st inning to go on top 9-0. The Lakers were quick to respond in the bottom of the 2nd, scoring 4 runs to narrow the deficit. The Lakers strong 2nd inning was fueld by a costly mistake by the Kats that allowed Brendan McCrosson (Mahopac, N.Y./ Mahopac) to reach home. With one on, Lakers leadoff man Ryan Smith (Fairport, N.Y./ Fairport) would knock in a 1 RBI single to bring in teammate Nolan Storch (Elmira, N.Y./ Elmira) for the 2nd run of the inning. DJ Stoianovich (Fairport, N.Y./ Fairport) would come up to bat, with 2 outs and 2 on and hit a 2 RBI double, narrowing the Lakers deficit in a big moment. The Lakers would finish out their day in the scoring column, falling in tough 17-4 loss in a 5 inning finish.

The Lakers will look to respond on the road when they Lakers compete in a doubleheader rematch against the Kats on March 29th in a 2 PM first pitch and a scheduled 4:30 PM 2nd game start.
