Baseball Sweeps DH vs. Onondaga CC

CANANDAIGUA — The Finger Lakes Community College baseball team swept a doubleheader with Onondaga Community College Saturday afternoon at FLCC's turf complex.

FLCC (13-8) picked up a 1-0 win in the opener, then earned a walk-off, 6-5 win over OCC (11-3) to complete the sweep. 

In the opener, sophomore Tim McClare (Macedon, N.Y./Gananda) plated the game's only run on an RBI triple to power the Lakers, while freshman Michael Protz (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) earned the win, tossing five shutout innings while allowing two hits with seven strikeouts. Freshman Jeremy Hernandez (Weston, Fla./Cypress Bay) and sophomore Josh Ferris (North Chili, N.Y./Churchville Chili) closed out the win with two shutout innings of relief, with Ferris earning the save by striking out one over 1 1/3 innings.

In game two, sophomore Justin Marshall (Bath, N.Y./Haverling) was 3-for-4 with two RBI, freshman Brendan McCrosson (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, sophomore Nolan Storch (Elmira, N.Y./Elmira) drove in a pair of runs, and sophomore Jorge Oropeza III (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena) and freshman Devin Georgetti (Rochester, N.Y./Gates Chili) each had two hits in the win.

FLCC overcame deficits of 2-0 and 4-1, responding with four runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 5-4 lead. The Lazers tied the game in the top of the seventh, but Marshall sent the Lakers home with a walk-off win with an RBI single in the bottom of the inning.
