Hot Hitting Leads to Lakers DH Sweep

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College baseball team played host to Region III opponent, the Cougars of Genesee Community College Sunday afternoon. At the end of the day, the Lakers would come away with the doubleheader sweep over the opposition in a full display of the Lakers hitting abilities.

The Lakers would put up 27 runs in the doubleheader sweep over the Cougars, holding the opposition to 9 runs.

Game 1

Lucas Sulimowicz (Rochester, N.Y./ Greece Athena) would start the day off for the Lakers on a line drive that would bring home teammate Tyler Cerame (Hilton, N.Y./ Hilton). In the bottom of the 2nd inning, first baseman Justin Marshall (Bath, N.Y./ Haverling) would knock in a 1 RBI triple, bring Sulimowicz home.

Marshall would add on the Lakers 3rd run of the inning, scoring on a Cougars wild pitch. The Laker would go 2 scoreless innings before a 4-run inning in the bottom of the 5th.

Jorge Oropeza III (Rochester, N.Y./ Greece Athena) would earn a run, thanks to a Lakers batter HBP. The Lakers big 5th inning was fueled largely by a Devin Kelly (Clifton Springs, N.Y./ Midlakes) 3 RBI double, that would put the Lakers up 7-0 and bring home teammate Lucas Sulimowicz, Justin Marshall and Alfredo Hurtado (Davie, F.L./ Chaminade Madonna College Prep).

The Lakers would tack on 3 more runs in the bottom of the 6th, with Lukas Haefner (Rochester, N.Y./ Rush Henrietta) scoring, along with a costly error on a Justin Marshall single, which would bring home Tyler Cerame and pinch runner Vaughn Victor (Ft. Lauderdale, F.L./ Stranahan).

Devin Georgetti (Rochester, N.Y./ Gates-Chili) would pitch 6 full innings, holding the Cougars to 4 hits and striking out 5 of the 25 batters faced. Sean Peck (Dryden, N.Y./ Dryden) would come into the game in the 7th innings to close out the game 1 victory.

Game 2

The Lakers would pick up a win in a 5-inning finish over the Cougars in game 2, winning 17-6.

Lukas Haefner would put together a productive day, going 3 for 3 in his at bats, good for 3 RBI and 2 stolen bases on the day. Tim McClare (Macedon, N.Y./ Gananda) would go 2 for 3, with 3 RBI, while teammate Justin Marshall would add 2 RBI in game 2. Ryan Smith (Fairport, N.Y./ Fairport), Tyler Cerame, Nolan Storch (Elmira, N.Y./ Elmira), Devin Kelly and Andres Rios (Weston, F.L./ Cypress Bay) would all add 1 RBI apiece, with Rios recording 1 stolen base.

Jake Thomas (Honeoye, N.Y./ Honeoye) would earn the win on the mound, striking out 6 batters and allow 2 hits in 2 innings for the 17-6 finish.

The Lakers will return to play Tuesday, April 5th when they travel to take on the Kats of Erie Community College.
