Lakers Extend Winning Streak to 4

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College baseball team traveled to Chenago Valley High School in a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and Mid-State Athletic Conference (MSAC) matchup with the Hornets of SUNY Broome. The Lakers would complete the season sweep over the Hornets, defeating them at home on April 9th, before earning 8-4 and 9-1 victories Sunday afternoon.

Game 1

 

Jake Conklin (Fairport, N.Y./ Fairport) earned the start and the win on the mound, allowing 7 hits in the start and striking out 2 batters. Sean Peck (Dryden, N.Y./ Dryden) would provide 2 innings of relief, allowing 1 hits and striking out 1 of the 6 batters faced.

Devin Kelly (Clifton Springs, N.Y./ Midlakes) would bunt in 3 runners and hit a sacrifice fly to bring in another, on top of 1 RBI on the day. Jorge Oropeza III (Rochester, N.Y./ Greece Athena) would hit a 2 RBI double to extend the Lakers lead, teammate Lucas Sulimowicz (Rochester, N.Y./ Greece Athena) would add 2 RBI against the Hornets as well.

Sophomore Lukas Haefner (Rochester, N.Y./ Rush Henrietta) would double, while teammates Justin Marshall (Bath, N.Y./ Haverling) would bunt in 2 runners along with 1 RBI, Tim McClare (Macedon, N.Y./ Gananda) would bunt in a runner and hit 1 RBI and Devin Georgetti (Rochester, N.Y./ Gates-Chili) would add 1 RBI as well.

The Lakers would put their base running on display, as teammates Ryan Smith (Fairport, N.Y./ Fairport) and Tyler Cerame (Hilton, N.Y./ Hilton) would each pick up a stolen base.

Game 2

After a productive game 1 at the plate, Devin Kelly would earn the start on the pitchers mound. The two-way player would put his repertoire on display in 5 innings on the mound. Kelly would strike out 6 batters and allow 5 hits out of the 22 batters faced on the day. Lukas Haefner would pitch 2 innings of relief, striking out 5 of the 6 batters he faced.
 
Tim McClare would lead the Lakers in the hitting column, adding 4 RBI to go along with a home run to add to the Lakers score. Lukas Haefner would double and add 2 RBI, while teammate Lucas Sulimowicz would knock in 2 RBI. Teammate Brendan McCrosson (Mahopac, N.Y./ Mahopac) add an RBI to round out the Lakers day, enroute to a 9-1 finish.
 
The Lakers travel to Genesee Community College tomorrow, April 12th, in a doubleheader matchup with the Cougars at 2 PM/4:30 PM.
