Baseball Suffer First Loss of the Season

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Finger Lakes Community College Lakers baseball team suffered their first loss of the season, falling to Middlesex College 6-1 in 7 innings on Sunday, March 12th. The Lakers saw their 6-game win streak get snapped in the morning matchup, dropping their record to 6-1 on the early season.

Originally scheduled to play the County College of Morris later in the afternoon, the Lakers would settle for one game on the day after the matchup was cancelled.

The Lakers lone run of the game came on a 1 RBI sacrifice fly from Lucas Sulimowicz (Rochester, N.Y./ Greece Athena) to bring home teammate DJ Stoianovich (Rochester, N.Y./ Fairport) in the second inning to give the Lakers an early 1-0 lead.

The Lakers would hold their narrow advantage heading into the sixth inning before the Colts would capitalize on a Lakers error to score 4 runs in the sixth inning. The Colts would go on to tack on 2 more in the final 7th inning where the Lakers were unable to mount a comeback.

Sophomore Tanner Frank (Rochester, N.Y./ Brighton) earned the start, striking out 7 batters and walking 2 over six innings, and allowing only 1 earned run. Despite the strong showing, Frank would fall to 1-1 on the mound this season.

The Lakers are back in action today, March 13th for a doubleheader with Montgomery County Community College, with their first game of the doubleheader scheduled for 3 PM. Can't make the game? Tune into the matchup here.
