Lakers Carry 11-2 Record into Regional Play

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Finger Lakes Community College baseball enters regional play and their home opener next Tuesday, March 21st with a record of 11-2. The Lakers, who have been firing on all cylinders in the early season, have put premier pitching and lights out hitting on display during their spring break trip to the Ripken Complex. 

3/13/23 - Game 1, Montgomery County CC 

Lakers dropped game 1 to Montgomery CC, despite a strong pitching performance by Nick Balcom (Camden, N.Y./ Camden), the Lakers bats were unable to drive them home to victory.

3/13/23 - Game 2, Montgomery County CC 

In game two the Lakers bats came to life, with a home run apiece by Paulie Goodness (Palmyra, N.Y./ Palmyra-Macedon) and 1 by Alex Ahlstrom (Dunkirk, N.Y./ Dunkirk) that saw the Lakers cruise to a 11-5 win. 

3/14/23 - Game 1, Susquehanna JV 

Tuesday afternoon saw a pitching duel with sophomore duo as Peyton Ahlstrom (Dunkirk, N.Y./ Dunkirk) and Jake Conklin (Fairport, N.Y./ Fairport) outdueled the Susquehanna JV pitchers; finishing a 2-1 win. 

Teammates Paulie Goodness and Kenny Murphy (Webster, N.Y./ Webster Schroeder) would bat home DJ Stoianovich (Fairport, N.Y./ Fairport) and Alex Ahlstrom for the Lakers two runs of the game.

3/14/23 - Game 1, Clark State 

Tuesday afternoon saw a back-and-forth affair between Division II Clark State College and the Lakers.

The Lakers would prevail in extra innings over the Seahawks, led that day by Alex Ahlstrom with 3 runs, Matthew DiSanti (Farmingdale, N.Y./ Farmingdale) with 3 runs, Tyler Cerame (Hilton, N.Y./ Hilton) with 4 RBIs, Paulie Goodness with 4 RBIs, and Matthew Rodriguez (Lackawanna, N.Y./ Lackawanna) with 3 RBIs in a high scoring affair that saw the Lakers come away with at 18-14 win. 

3/15/23 - Game 1, Brookdale CC 

The Lakers offense exploded in a 5-inning mercy-rule win over Brookdale Community College who would collect 11 hits, 3 of which being doubles in the 12-1 over the #7 nationally ranked Jersey Blues.

At the mound was sophomore Devin Georgetti (Rochester, N.Y./ Gates Chili) who gathered 4 hits over 5 innings, only allowing 1 run and 1 earned run in the matchup. At the plate sophomore duo DJ Stoianovich and Kenny Murphy led with 2 hits and 2 RBIs.

3/16/23 - Game 1, Viriginia Peninsula CC

The Lakers gathered 10 hits and scored 12 runs in a 12-3 finale over Virginia Peninsula Community College to cap off the team's spring break.

Tyler Cerame and Alex Wootton (Palmyra, N.Y./ Palmyra) each drove in 2 RBIs in the game to lead the Lakers in the hitting column. Cerame would use strong baserunning to pick up 2 stolen bases on the Gators. 

Sophomore lefty Michael Protz (Fairport, N.Y./ Fairport) picked up his third win of the season throwing 3 innings, striking out 4 batters, and allowing 1 earned run.

With the conclusion of their spring break trip, the Lakers will now shift their focus to Region III and conference play, which will start next Tuesday, March 21st as the Lakers host the Jefferson Community College Cannoneers. Heading into their home opener the Lakers will hold an advantage over the visiting Cannoneers who will play their first game of the season against the Lakers.
