Lakers Sweep Conference Opponent at Home

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - Lakers baseball improved to 21-6 Saturday afternoon with a sweep over conference opponent Onondaga Community College. The Lakers hosted their conference opponent for a doubleheader at the FLCC multi-use turf facility. The team extended their conference record to 8-0 with a sweep over the Lazers.

Game one vs. Onondaga

Sophomore pitcher Nick Balcom (Camden, N.Y./ Camden) helped guide the Lakers to victory in game one, throwing 6 1/3 innings, allowing only 3 hits, and 1 earned run while striking out 11 batters. The strong performance by the sophomore helped the Lakers cruise to a 6-1 victory.

Tyler Cerame (Hilton, N.Y./ Hilton) led the Lakers in the hit column, going 3-for-4 with 1 RBI. Lakers DJ Stoianovich (Fairport, N.Y./ Fairport) and Collin Clark (Middleport, N.Y./ Royalton Hartland) each doubled in the matchup while Paulie Goodness (Palmyra, N.Y./ Palmyra) would hit a 1 RBI triple.

Five different Lakers would drive in an RBI with Lucas Sulimowicz (Rochester, N.Y./ Greece Athena) led all Lakers with 2 in the game. 

Game two vs. Onondaga

The Lakers jumped out to an early 5-1 lead over the Lazers and never looked back in route to an 8-3 finish. 14 hits off the Lakers bats in game two helped lead them to a sweep over their conference opponent. 

Freshman Alex Wootton (Palmyra, N.Y./ Palmyra Macedon) led the Lakers in game two with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate. Sophomore Lucas Sulimowicz would put together another strong game, driving in 2 runs, drawing 2 walks, and going 1-for-2 in his plate appearances. Fellow Greece Athena graduate Jorge Oropeza III (Rochester, N.Y./ Greece Athena) collected 2 hits and 1 RBI in 3 at-bats against the Lazers. 

Sophomore Jake Conklin (Fairport, N.Y./ Fairport) picked up the win on the mound, throwing five innings and allowing 1 earned run while striking out 5 batters over that span. 

The Lakers are back at it on Monday, April 10th when they travel to Erie Community College for a doubleheader, with the first pitch scheduled for 2 PM. The game marks the first of a 3-game road trip before the Lakers return home on Sunday, April 16th for a 12 PM doubleheader with the TC3 Panthers.
