Baseball Concludes Regular Season and Earns Bid to Regionals

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. -The Lakers completed their regular season with a successful sweep over Corning Community College, but then lost two consecutive games against the Cayuga Community College Spartans.

Lakers baseball has accumulated a record of 40-15, which equaled the program's record for most wins in a season. In NJCAA Region III play, they had a record of 19-9, which earned them the #4 seed in the NJCAA Region III, Division III West standings. The Lakers have a dynamic group of players heading into the regional playoffs, highlighted by their pitching. The Lakers pitching rotation has the 8th lowest ERA in NJCAA Division III, with 3.98. They are led by sophomore Devin Georgetti (Rochester, N.Y./Gates Chili), who has made 13 appearances, won 5 games, and recorded 2 saves this season. Georgetti has the 5th best ERA in NJCAA Division III baseball, with a 1.59 average, and has struck out 86 batters this season, ranking 4th in NJCAA Division III.

Besides an elite pitching rotation, the Lakers have one of the strongest groups of hitters in the program's history. As a team, they currently rank 9th in the country with 488 hits, 6th in doubles with 110, 15th in triples with 19, and 15th in on-base percentage at .449. Sophomore Tyler Cerame (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) has been a standout hitter for the Lakers, leading the team as the leadoff man. Cerame ranks 19th in NJCAA Division III with 70 hits and 3rd in doubles with 21.

Standing in the Lakers way of their fourth straight NJCAA Region III Final Four appearance in one team. The Lakers will face one of their toughest challenges yet, as they take on the Herkimer County Community College Generals in the Sub-Regional round on May 13th. The Generals claimed the #1 seed in the NJCAA Region III, Division III East standings, with a record of 32-5 and a regional record of 25-3. The Lakers will meet the Generals for the first time this season, in what is expected to be one of the most exciting games in NJCAA baseball.
