Timely Hitting Propels Lakers Past Onondaga

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - After splitting their doubleheader at home against Onondaga Community College, the Lakers baseball team secured a big sweep over the Lazers on the road Saturday afternoon. The Lakers would take a 5-3 victory in game one over Onondaga before taking game two, 6-4. Timely hitting and pitching propelled the Lakers to victory as they improved to 9-6 (3-1) this season.

Freshman Aiden Reed (Manchester, N.Y./Red Jacket) started on the mound for the Lakers, delivering a stellar performance by allowing just one unearned run over 5 innings, along with 3 strikeouts, earning his first win of the season. Classmate Nicholas Olmo (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) took over in relief, navigating through the final two innings. Offensively, the Lakers shined, sophomore Lucas Granger (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) led the way with a perfect day at the plate, going 3-for-4 and adding a stolen base. Sophomores Matthew DiSanti (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) and Collin Clark (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford-Mendon) each scored twice, with DiSanti hitting a double and Clark smashing a triple. Collin Clark and Jeffrey Broadnax (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) were instrumental in driving in the Lakers' runs, with Clark bringing in two runs and Broadnax contributing two RBIs of his own.

The Lakers clinched the sweep in game two with a 6-4 victory over the Lazers. Sophomore Lucas Granger was the standout performer for the Lakers, driving the offense with a powerful display at the plate. Granger hit a crucial home run and a double, accounting for four of the team's six runs with his four RBIs. Teammates Matthew DiSanti and Justin Angora (Henrietta, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) contributed to the scoring efforts. DiSanti delivered an RBI single, while Angora's sacrifice fly brought in another run. Sophomores Danny Melendez (Victor, N.Y./Victor) and Ryan Mettler (Royalton, N.Y./Royalton-Hartland) added some help from the bottom of the lineup, with Melendez scoring twice and Mettler adding a run.

On the mound, Ian Goodness (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) scored a solid performance to earn his third win, pitching five innings and allowing four earned runs on seven hits, while striking out three. Trenton Muck (Lyndonville, N.Y./Lyndonville) came in relief to secure the save, his first of the season, by throwing two 1-2-3 innings. Up next is a trip to Erie Community College this Thursday, April 4th at 2 PM and 4 PM. The Lakers will look to take the doubleheader over the Kats who went 3-1 against the Lakers last season.
