Lakers Split at Home With Tompkins Cortland

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College baseball team started their day strong with a 12-2 win over Tompkins Cortland Community College in the team's first game of the doubleheader before the Panthers rallied back to tie game two in the seventh inning and take the game into extra innings. The Panthers would steal game two by a lopsided score of 10-4 in the tenth.

The Lakers started strong in the first game, with standout performances from several players. Sophomore Paulie Goodness (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) led the offensive charge, going 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, also stealing two bases to round out a strong game. Classmate Collin Clark (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford-Mendon) added two hits and an RBI to his tally while Lucas Granger (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) and Alex Ahlstrom (Dunkirk, N.Y./Dunkirk) utilized their speed to each swipe a base a piece.

Freshman ace Ian Goodness (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) delivered a strong performance on the mound, pitching five innings, allowing just one earned run, and striking out six to earn his fourth win of the season. F

The second game proved to be a challenge for the Lakers. Despite compiling 11 hits, with Patrick Altpeter's (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas) pinch-hit RBI and Christian Morrison's (Macedon, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) Morrison's three RBIs, including a crucial sacrifice fly. Sophomore Michael Bowler (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) started on the mound and performed admirably through 5 innings, holding the Panthers scoreless and striking out six. However, the Panthers would rally in the following innings to take the win.

Up next for the Lakers is a home doubleheader with the Spartans of Cayuga Community College this Thursday, April 18th at 2 and 4 PM.
