Bio

Professor Michael Van Etten (Rendol) is a full-time, tenured, faculty member of the Humanities Department at FLCC and specializes in Cultural Studies, World Languages, and the Study Abroad program. He is most proud of his A.A. in Liberal Arts from Finger Lakes Community College and also holds a B.A. in Hispanic Language, Literature, and Civilization from SUNY Brockport and a M.A. in Spanish Literature and Cultural Theory from The University at Buffalo.
 
Van Etten has directed, or assisted academic study abroad programs in Mexico, Spain, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, France, Canada, and has lived and worked in several other countries over the course of his career.
 
Van Etten also is a life-long gamer, focusing on PC gaming. He has published several books and papers on ludic (gaming) theory in education, and has given multiple conference presentations on applying game-design principles to modern college instruction. He enjoys a wide variety of narratives and games in addition to playing Overwatch.
