Lakers Down Clinton at Home

CANANDAIUGA -- Tahaij Lewis scored a career-high 18 points off the bench for Finger Lakes as they defeated Clinton Community College 109-76 on Saturday in Men's Basketball. The Lakers improve to 5-0 on the season and 3-0 in regional play.

The game started slowly with the teams trying to get into a rhythm. Junior Sims made a three to give Finger Lakes an early lead. Finger Lakes would grow their early lead, but Clinton fought back. They would lead by as many as four points, halfway through the first half. A Kievonn Banks steal led to a Rahiem Robinson layup to give Finger Lakes the 26-25 lead with 9:25 left in the first half. The Lakers would not relinquish the lead the rest of the game and carried a 53-39 lead into halftime.

Three Lakers were in double-figures at the half. Tahaij Lewis led the way with 14 points in the half. Dylan Verkey added 11 and Torry Wright had 10 points and 9 assists in the opening period.

The Lakers maintained control of the game in the second half. They outscored Clinton 56-37 in the frame due to improved shooting. Finger Lakes shot 63% from the field and held Clinton to just 27%. 14 of the 15 Lakers would score on their way to the 109-76 victory.

Lewis finished with a game and career-high 18 points. Brandon Bullock had a career-high 10 assists for Finger Lakes. Torry Wright added a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Kievonn Banks and Noah Whalen were in double figures off the bench. Banks had 13 while Whalen had a career-high 10. Dylan Verkey and Junior Sims rounded out the double-digit scoring efforts  with 13 and 12, respectively.

Finger Lakes will remain at home on Sunday as they welcome North Country Community College to Putt Moore Court. The matchup with the Saints is set to start at 3pm.
