Lakers Continue Streak; Defeats North Country 99-72

CANANDAIGUA -- Finger Lakes Community College defeated North County Community College on Sunday in Men's Basketball by the score of 99-72. The Lakers improve to 6-0 on the season and 4-0 in Region III play.

The Lakers came out fast against the Saints on Sunday. Dylan Verkey made a pair of threes in the opening two minutes to stake Finger Lakes to an early lead. North Country would go on an 8-0 run, however to take the lead. A Kievonn Banks layup would draw the game back even, but North Country widened their lead to as many as six points halfway through the first period. Deante Mathis made a deep three to give the Lakers the lead back and they maintained control of the half. Finger Lakes grew their lead to as many as nine points carried a 42-36 lead into the locker rooms at halftime.

Kievonn Banks gave the Lakers quick offense off of the bench. He scored a game-leading 18 points in the first half. Junior Sims led the Lakers in rebounding with seven in the half, including four on the offensive end.

Finger Lakes' offense came out strong in the second half. They used a couple quick 7-0 or 8-0 runs to widen the margin against the Saints. Dylan Verkey made five of his seven three-pointers in the second half. The Lakers shots 58% from the floor in the half on their way to the 99-72 victory.

Kievonn Banks scored in the twenties for the second time in three games for Finger Lakes. His 29 points was a game and career-high. Dylan Verkey scored a season-high 27 points. His seven threes is the most by a Laker since Verkey did it last January. Junior Sims had another double-double for Finger Lakes. He finished with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Torry Wright added 17 points and Brandon Bullock had seven assists for the Lakers.

Finger Lakes will host Jamestown Community College-Cattaraugus Campus on Wednesday in Canandaigua. Tipoff between the Lakers and the Jaguars is set for 6pm.
