Mohawk Valley Snaps Lakers Streak

UTICA, NY -- The Finger Lakes Men's Basketball team's seven game winning streak was snapped on Saturday by Mohawk Valley Community College. The Lakers fell to the Hawks 88-76. Finger Lakes is now 7-1 on the season.

The Lakers opened Saturday's game on an 8-0 run. Brandon Bullock would steal the ball and find Rahiem Robinson on the break for the 8-0 lead two minutes into the game. Mohawk Valley would fight to tie it back up, but a Junior Sims three pointer gave Finger Lakes the lead right back halfway through the first half. The Hawks would hold the Lakers scoreless for a four minute stretch of the half as they took the lead in the game. Mohawk Valley went into the locker room at halftime leading 42-37. 

Mohawk Valley maintained their lead in the second half. The stretched it to as many as 12 points early on in the half. Junior Sims had a three point play to get it back to single-digits at the 11 minute mark. Brandon Bullock hit a three at nine minutes to make it a 67-60 game. That would be as close as it would get, however. Mohawk Valley would continue to stretch it out on their way to the 88-76 victory.

Sims led the way for Finger Lakes with 18 points. He also added eight rebounds and three steals. Kievonn Banks had a team-high 10 rebounds to go with his 15 points. Torry Wright was also in double-digits with 15 points.

The Lakers will face Herkimer on Sunday at 2pm. The Generals are ranked #1 in the latest Region III Coaches' Poll.
