Generals Top Lakers 87-71

HERKIMER, NY -- The Finger Lakes Men's Basketball team fell to the top ranked team in the region, Herkimer College, on Sunday by the score of 87-71. Finger Lakes is now 7-2 on the season.

Herkimer came out fast on their home court against Finger Lakes. They opened the game on an 18-4 run over the first seven minutes. Dylan Verkey would hit a three for the Lakers to cut into the General lead. The Lakers would continue to attempt to cut into the margin as the half continued. They were able to get it to single digits, 27-19, at the 5:30 mark when Mike Lacey found Junior Sims down low for the easy two points. Torry Wright converted a three point play to draw the margin down to five points with just under three minutes left to play in the half, but the Generals would answer and stretch it out to a 39-29 lead at halftime.

The Generals came out after halftime and took control of the game. Six minutes into the half, they stretched the lead out to 20 points and led by as many as 24 halfway through the second half. Finger Lakes made some late buckets with Kievonn Banks hitting a couple threes and Kadeem Fulton going 5-6 from the free throw line, but Herkimer would go on to win 87-71.

Banks led the Lakers in scoring with 20 points and 10 rebounds. He was the only Laker in double figures. Sims and Tahaij Lewis each had nine for Finger Lakes.

The Lakers will have the week off for the Thanksgiving break. They return to action at home on December 4 against Medialle College's JV team. Finger Lakes returns to regional action the following weekend hosting Hudson Valley and SUNY Adirondack.
