Lakers Sink Raiders 86-70

JOHNSTOWN, NY -- The Finger Lakes Men's Basketball team defeated Fulton-Montgomery Community College on Saturday by the score of 86-70. The Lakers end the fall semester with a 10-2 record and 7-2 in Region III play. 

The game between Finger Lakes and Fulton-Montgomery got out to a very fast start. The Lakers were able to build a 21-14 lead in the opening seven minutes. Tahaij Lewis had a put-back bucket to give the Lakers a 23-19 lead after the Raiders got back into it. Lewis had five points and four rebounds in the half. Fulton-Montgomery would tie the game briefly at 23-23, but Brandon Bullock hit a straightaway three to give the Lakers the lead back. That would spark an 11-0 run over the next two and a half minutes. The two teams would trade baskets down the stretch and the Lakers would carry a 50-40 lead into halftime.

Dylan Verkey led the Lakers at the break with 11 points off of a trio of three pointers. Bullock also hit three threes in the half. Kievonn Banks had 10 points and seven points in the first half for Finger Lakes.

Fulton-Montgomery came out hot in the second half. They opened the half on a 12-0 run to take the lead and held the Lakers scoreless for over six minutes. Kievonn Banks maid a pair of free throws to tie the game at 52-52 with 13:39 left to play. It was the Lakers first points of the half. Dylan Verkey gave the Lakers the lead back with a three pointer. A pair of Tahaij Lewis baskets sparked a 10-0 run that put the game in the hands of Finger Lakes. Allantae Faust found Lewis down low for another basket, and then he followed that up with a three of his own to give the Lakers a 78-64 lead. Finger Lakes would continue on to the 86-70 victory.

Kievonn Banks led the Lakers with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Lewis also had 11 rebounds to go with his 17 points. Dylan Verkey and Brandon Bullock were also in double-digits for the Lakers. They had 14 and 3 points, respectively. 

The Lakers made their free throws count. They made 27 of their 29 free throws., 93.1%

Finger Lakes will open the 2015 portion of the schedule on January 3 when they host Schenectady County Community College. Tipoff from Putt Moore Court is set for 3pm.
