Lakers Rally to Top Schenectady 93-65

CANANDAIGUA - Finger Lakes overcame a 10 point first half deficit to defeat Schenectady County Community College 93-65 in Men's Basketball. The Lakers improve to 8-2 in Region III play and 11-2 overall on the season.

Finger Lakes built an early 6-0 lead over Schenectady on Saturday, but it was quickly erased by a pair of Royal three pointers. Schenectady would use the deep ball to take the lead. They made six of their first eight three pointers and took a 10 point lead, 34-24, with 5:34 left in the first. Kievonn Banks hit a three of his own as the Lakers began a run to close the half. The Lakers outscored the Royals 20-7 to end the half. The run was bookended by another three by Banks and Finger Lakes had a 44-41 lead at the break.

Banks had 14 points in the first half for Finger Lakes. Tahaij Lewis also had 14 for the Lakers and added a game-high seven rebounds. Also in double-digits for the Lakers was Brandon Bullock who had 11 in the opening frame.

A Schenectady three would tie the game at 44-44 to start the half, but the rest was all Finger Lakes. The Lakers went on a 33-4 run over the next 11 minutes to take control of the game. Finger Lakes would go on to defeat the Royals 93-65.

Kievonn Banks led the Lakers with 21 points. He also added five steals. As a team, Finger Lakes stole the ball 20 times from Schenectady. Tahaij Lewis tied career-highs with 18 points and 11 rebounds in recording his second consecutive double-double. Brandon Bullock had 17 points and seven rebounds for the Lakers as well.

Finger Lakes will travel to Dryden, NY on Tuesday to face the defending Mid-State Athletic Conference Champions Tompkins Cortland. Tipoff with the Panthers is set for 7pm.
