Lakers Run Past Hornets, 109-60

CANANDAIGUA -- Six Lakers were in double-figures as Finger Lakes Community College defeated SUNY Broome Community College 109-60 in Men's Basketball. The Lakers improve to 13-2 on the season. They are also 10-2 in regional play and 2-0 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference.

The Lakers came out fast, outscoring the Hornets 19-6 in the first six minutes of play. Halfway through the first half, Kievonn Banks subbed into the game and the freshman made an instant impact for Finger Lakes. The Lakers went on 13-0 run with Banks contributing eight of those points. Finger Lakes was on their way to their highest scoring first half of the season. The Lakers led the Hornets 54-28 at the break.

Banks led the Lakers at the break with 13 points. Dylan Verkey was also in double-digits with 10 points. Brandon Bullock had eight points and added seven rebounds and five assists. The Lakers shot 58.3% in the first half and held Broome to just 28.6% shooting.

The Lakers scored the opening five points of the second and did not look back. Tahaij Lewis had a tipin off a Dylan Verkey three point attempt to push the lead to 40 points halfway through the second. Lewis had a strong half. He scored 11 of his 16 points in the second and grabbed six rebounds in the period. Finger Lakes would continue on to the 109-60 victory.

Brandon Bullock and Tahaij Lewis tied for the team lead in scoring with 16 points. Keivonn Banks gave the Lakers 15 points off the bench and Junior Sims added 11 from the bench as well. Finger Lakes outscored Broome 45-10 in bench scoring. Torry Wright had 13 points and Dylan Verkey rounded out the Lakers in double-digits with 10 points. Kadeem Fulton added a career-high nine points for the Lakers.

Finger Lakes will remain at home this weekend as they host the Cannoneers of Jefferson Community College. Tipoff from Putt Moore Court is set for 3pm.
