Lakers Hold On Against Jefferson

CANANDAIGUA -- The Finger Lakes Men's Basketball team defeated Jefferson Community College on Sunday by the score of 83-74. The Lakers are now 3-0 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. They are also 11-2 in Region III play and 14-2 on the season.

Torry Wright helped get the Lakers going in the first half, scoring eight of the first 10 points for Finger Lakes. The Lakers used a 15-2 run to grow their lead against Jefferson. The Cannoneers did not go away however. The Lakers held their largest lead of the half, 16 points, halfway through the first, but Jefferson would answer to keep the game close. They would get the margin down to seven points, but a Tahaij Lewis layup with four seconds left in the half gave Finger Lakes a 41-32 lead going into halftime.

Torry Wright led the way for Finger Lakes. He topped his career-high in just the first half with 18 points. Lewis had eight points, five rebounds, and two blocks for the Lakers.

The Lakers came out in the second and extended their lead. Halfway through the second half, they had a 23 point margin, leading 70-47. Jefferson would come back. The Cannoneers used a 21-4 run to get back into the game. Jefferson worked it down to a five point game, 79-74, with 46 seconds left to play. Brandon Bullock made a pair of free throws to answer Jefferson's scoring, and the Lakers went on to the 83-74 victory.

Wright finished the game with a game-high 28 points. He also added 10 rebounds. Tahaij Lewis finished with 17 points, 14 rebounds and seven blocks for the Lakers. Brandon Bullock was also in double-digits for Finger Lakes with 17 points.

The Lakers will be on the road this upcoming week. They travel to Corning Community College on Thursday. Tipoff against the Red Barons is slated for 7pm.
