Corning Tops Finger Lakes 92-74

CORNING, NY -- The Finger Lakes Men's Basketball team lost their first conference game of the season on Thursday at Corning Community College by the score of 92-74. The Lakers are now 3-1 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. The Lakers are also 11-3 on the season in Region III play and 14-3 on the season.

The Lakers got out to a fast start making their first four shots of the half to take the early lead against the Red Barons. Corning would answer however and take the lead right back minutes into the contest. Finger Lakes would trail by as many as seven in the half. Finger Lakes went on a 16-4 run to take the lead right back, capped by a Tahaij Lewis layup with less than five minutes left in the half. Corning came right back, however, and outscored the Lakers 7-3 over the final minutes of the half. The Red Barons carried a 37-34 lead at the half.

Kievonn Banks had nine points for the Lakers and Tahaij Lewis added eight in the half. Torry Wright collected seven rebounds to go with his six points in the first half.

The Lakers took the ball to start the second half. Brandon Bullock drove the lane and hit Rahiem Robinson for the three to tie the game at 37-37. Corning answered and built their lead up to 10 points. The Lakers made a couple threes and Robinson made a driving layup to make it a one point game, 49-48, with 14 minutes left in the half. Corning would respond with hot shooting and timely threes. They built a 15 point lead over the next eight minutes. The Lakers were able to cut it back to a 10 point game with five minutes remaining, but the Red Barons went on another run to put the game away on their way to the 92-74 victory.

Kievonn Banks led the Lakers with 23 points. Tahaij Lewis was 7-8 from the floor and had 15 points for Finger Lakes. Torry Wright had 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Rahiem Robinson made a pair of threes and finished with 10 points for the Lakers.

Finger Lakes will look to get back in the win column on Saturday as they take on Cayuga Community College. Tipoff from Auburn, NY is scheduled for 3pm.
