Finger Lakes Defeats Cayuga CC 87-66

AUBURN, NY -- Six Lakers were in double figures as the Finger Lakes Men's Basketball team defeated Cayuga Community College on Saturday by the score of 87-66. The Lakers improve to 15-3 on the season and 4-1 in Mid-State Athletic Conference play.

The Lakers came out and set the tone early against the Spartans. Kievonn Banks completed a three point play for an early 10-4 lead five minutes into the half. A couple possessions later, Banks found Rahiem Robinson on the fast break for the layup. Finger Lakes continued to run. Deante Mathis stole the ball from Cayuga and pulled up for the transition three pointer. Mathis followed that up with another steal and a fast-break layup and the 25-8 Laker advantage. Mathis made one more three in the half off of an assist by Noah Whalen with 43 seconds left in the half as the Lakers carried a 45-26 lead into the locker room.

Dylan Verkey led the Lakers with 13 points in the half. He was 3-5 from three point territory. Kievonn Banks had nine points and a team-high six rebounds. Mathis finished the first half with eight points for the Lakers.

Finger Lakes quickly widened the margin in the second half. Rahiem Robinson hit a fast break layup to give the Lakers a 30 point lead, 60-30, with 15 minutes left in the half. The Spartans would cut into the lead and get the margin down to the teens late in the game, but the Finger Lakes lead was too much as the Lakers continued on to the 87-66 victory.

Verkey finished with a team-high 16 points for the Lakers. Kievonn Banks added 13 points and nine rebounds. Rahiem Robinson and Tahaij Lewis each added 11 points. Robinson also contributed with five assists and Lewis finished with 3 blocks. Two other Lakers were in double-digits. Torry Wright and Deante Mathis each finished with 10 points. Wright finished with a team-high 12 rebounds as well for his fourth double-double of the season.

Finger Lakes will return home on Wednesday for a key Mid-State Athletic Conference game against the Lazers of Onondaga Community College. Tipoff from Putt Moore Court is set for 7:30pm.
