Lakers Win in Quarterfinals

CANANDAIGUA -- The Finger Lakes Men's Basketball team defeated SUNY Delhi in the Quarterfinals of the 2015 NJCAA Region III Division III Men's Basketball Championship on Saturday by the score of 96-77.

Finger Lakes will advance to the Semi-Finals and face top seed Herkimer College. With the win, Finger Lakes is now 23-5 on the season. SUNY Delhi concluded their 2014-15 season with a 18-12 record.

Brandon Bullock led Finger Lakes with a game-high 29 points. Tahaij Lewis tied his career-high with 18 points. The freshman also added eight rebounds. Torry Wright and Dylan Verkey each added 14 points for the Lakers.

Matthew Banton finished with 21 points for the Broncos. Francisco Infante added 19 and Naim Thomas scored 16 in the loss.

SUNY Delhi got out to an early lead on the Lakers. They got a pair of three pointers in opening on an 8-2 run. Dylan Verkey would drain a three pointer to give the Lakers their first lead of the game, 13-12, with 13 minutes left in the first. After Delhi tied the game at 20, Finger Lakes scored eight straight to grow their lead to 28-20. The Lakers continued to widen the margin and carred a 47-35 lead into the locker rooms at halftime. 

The Broncos faught to keep the game close, but the Lakers would never let the margin slip into single-digits. Instead, Finger Lakes slowly grew their lead out to 20 points on a Rahiem Robinson jumper with 4:51 left to play. The Lakers would continue on to the 96-77 victory.
