Lakers Win Thriller Against Onondaga

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College Men's Basketball team won in a thrilling finish against the Onondaga Community College Lazers last night. The Lakers won 73-66.

It was an exciting game for fans from both teams last night. The game started with points going back and forth just after tip-off. After five minutes of the first half, is when the Lakers began to trail the Lazers. At one point, they were down by 11 points. The rest of the half was a struggle, ending 43-31 in favor of the Lazers.

The second half started with Averi Parker being fouled while shooting a three-point shot. Parker would make all three free throws, giving the Lakers the energy they needed. It took until 5 minutes and thirteen seconds left in the game for the Lakers to tie up the game. Rodrigue Marthone made a layup off of a rebound from Parker to put the score to 60-60.

The Lazers found the lead again after two made free throws. Marthone made another layup that gave the Lakers' their final lead. Aly Omar was the MVP of the final minutes of the game. He made a key layup to make the score 67-62 with 3:25 left. Then, after a missed shot, Omar grabbed an offensive rebound, and went up to make his own layup with 22 seconds left. He was fouled as he went up, and sunk the free throw to put the Lakers into a bigger lead, 72-66. This advanced their lead so one shot by the Lazers couldn't take the game from them. Omar was fouled again, with 11 seconds left, and scored one of two which would bring the Lakers their win.

The Lakers won in an impressive, and nail biting finish, 73-66.

The Lakers shot 27-57, giving them a 47.4 field goal percentage. The Lazers went 26-53, giving them a 49.1 field goal percentage.

Game leaders for the Lakers were Parker were 25 points, four rebounds, and three assists, and Marthone with 22 points, nine rebounds, two assists, two steals, and one block.

The Lakers will move on to another Mid-State Athletic Conference matchup against the Tompkins Cortland Community College Panthers. They will play at Tompkins Cortland CC on Saturday, January 26th at 3:00pm.
