Lakers Fall Short of Comeback

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College Men's Basketball team dropped a close game to the Kats of Erie Community College Saturday, November 6th by a score of 68-65. The Lakers comeback attempt was thwarted after a last second and-one conversion by the Kats gave the Lakers the ball with a last-second half-court shot attempt.

The team fought back from a 16-point deficit in the 1st-half to give them a chance at the end of the game. With 20 seconds on the clock, and down 65-62, Freshman Danny Amador (Naples, F.L./ Palmetto Ridge) knocked down a clutch 3-pointer to tie the game. However, the Kats last-second basket secured the win for the opposition.

The Lakers start their season 0-2 after dropping their first game of the regular season to the Tribunes of Monroe Community College.

Freshman Javonte Williams (Rochester, N.Y./ Rush Henrietta) helped lead the charge for the Lakers, dropping 20 points, going 2-3 for the 3-point line, while also adding 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Freshman CJ James (Victor, N.Y./ Victor) and teammate Alejandro Cassitello (Manhattan, N.Y./ DME Academy) dominated the boards. James pulled down 3 offensive rebounds and 10 defensive, while Cassitello added 4 offensive and 6 defensive. The teammates hustle rebounds accounted for many 2nd-chance opportunites on the offensive end.

Freshman Danny Amador added 10 points, 1 assist and 2 steals to his total, going 2-2 from the 3-point line, while Freshman Justin Smith (Lyons, N.Y./ Lyons) made the most of his 13 minutes of play, contributing 7 points, 3 rebounds and 1 steal on the day.

In the end, the Lakers turnovers gave the Kats extra opportunities to convert on the offensive end, with the team turning the ball over 27 times. However, the Lakers look to turn the page in their next match against the Saints of North Country Community College on Sunday, November 7th at 2 P.M.
