Men's Basketball Dominates in Second Straight Win

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College Men's Basketball team picked up a big win over the SUNY ESF Mighty Oaks, winning by a score of 106-67. The Lakers played with purpose, looking like a team that is beginning to mesh 4 games into the regular season.

The Lakers versatility and depth was evident in the match, with 11 different players scoring. Head Coach Richard Jones feels as though his team is finally coming together "I liked our team tonight. We played with great energy and shared the ball".The Lakers defense generated several opportunities, accumulating 14 steals and 6 blocks on the night as a team. The Lakers offense generate many second chance opportunities, pulling down 12 offensive rebounds as a team. 

With their second-straight win, the Lakers looks to have finally found a rhythm as a squad. Freshman Devon Payton (Rochester, N.Y./ Gates Chili) led the way for the Lakers, coming off the bench and scoring 23 points, while dishing out 4 assists, pulling down 3 rebounds and grabbing 3 steals on the night in a dominate showing. Freshman Evan Hauser (Westfield, N.Y./ Westfield) added a spark from the 3-point line, going 4-7 from three and dropping 16 points. 

Sophomore Jevonte Williams (Rochester, N.Y./ Rush Henrietta) continued his consistent play for the Lakers, putting up 19 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists and 1 steal. Williams has proved to be one of the leaders on the Lakers squad with his stellar play thus far. Freshman Jaisan Parker (Durham, N.C./ Bull City Prep) earned the start on the night for the Lakers and made the most of his opportunity. Parker added 16 points for the Lakers, going 4-8 from three, while also dropping 4 assists on the night. Parkers grabbed 2 steals and one offensive and defensive rebound apiece to round out his stat line.

Freshman CJ James (Victor, N.Y./ Victor) further proved himself as a do-it-all player for the Lakers. James had another stellar day for the Lakers, dominating the boards with 6 offensive rebounds, while also pulling down 7 defensive rebounds. James was stout on defense, recording 3 steals and blocking 1 shot on the night, while adding 4 points in the scoring column and 1 assist. Freshman Justin Smith Jr. (Lyons, N.Y./ Lyons) played an important role in the 5 spot, generating 2 steals and 2 blocks, while pulling down 4 rebounds and adding 8 points to his total.

The Lakers dominate showing is a sign for good things to come. The Lakers concluded a 4-game homestand in their win and look ahead to their matchup with Mohawk Valley Community College on Saturday, November 13th.
