Waterman Paces Lakers Offense in Win Over Cardinals

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College Men's Basketball team took on the Cardinals of St. John Fisher College JV in a non-regional matchup. The Lakers proved victorious with a 89-79 win.

Sophomore Ben Waterman (Savannah, N.Y.) led the way for the Lakers, pouring in 24 points, while dishing out 3 assists in the process. On defense, Waterman pulled down 6 rebounds and swipped 1 steal. Freshman guard Devon Payton (Rochester, N.Y./ Gates Chili) came up big on offense for the second-straight game, dropping 16 points on 6-13 shooting. Payton also added 1 rebound, assist and steal apiece. 

Lakers leading scorer Jevonte Williams (Rochester, N.Y./ Rush Henrietta) adding 16 points and 3 assists on offense. On defens Williams pulled in 1 steal and 6 rebounds. Freshman CJ James (Victor, N.Y./ Victor) filled up the stat sheet, adding 8 points and 1 assist on offense. On defense, James had a monster night, pulling down 7 rebounds and swipping 5 steals before fouling out of the game in the 4th quarter. 

The Lakers improve to 6-6 on the season with the win, as the look to grow on a 2-game win streak when they travel to Niagara County Community College in a Region III matchup with the Thunderwolves. After the game, the Lakers conclude the 1st-half of their regular season, with their next matchup not coming until January 6th against SUNY Broome Community College.
