Lakers Pick Up Win on the Road

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Lakers were on the road Wednesday night in a Mid-State Athletic Conference matchup with the Hornets of SUNY Broome. The Lakers picked up a big conference win over their opponent, with a 78-65 finish.

In the victory, the Lakers were led by Freshman Devon Payton (Rochester, N.Y./ Gates Chili) and CJ James (Victor, N.Y./ Victor). Payton led the charge for the Lakers on offense, scoring 18 points and setting his teammates up with 2 assists. For James, the Lakers relied on his defense, pulling in 11 defensive rebounds and tallying 3 steals and 2 blocks on the night. On the offensive side of the ball, James added 12 points, 4 assists and 5 offensive rebounds. James's 16 total rebounds were good for a game high and season high total.

Freshman Austin Franklin (Huntsville, A.L./ Prince George) played an important role in the Lakers win, adding 14 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 3 steals. Freshman Jaisan Parker (Durham, N.C./ Bull City Prep) provided an offensive spark, contributing 14 points, while adding 1 rebound, 2 assists and 1 steal. Sophomore Ben Waterman (Savannah, N.Y.) added 10 points to the Lakers total, to go along with 2 rebounds and 1 assist. 

The Lakers return to play this Saturday, January 29th on their home court in the Putt Moore Gymnasium at 3 PM against the Cannoneers of SUNY Jefferson.
