Lakers Pick Up Win on Sophomore Night; Final Home Game

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College Men's Basketball team picked up the win in the Putt Moore Gymnasium on Monday night against the Hornets of SUNY Broome.

The Lakers win was fueled by a strong first-half. The Lakers jumped out to a 53-30 advantage, led by teammates Devon Payton (Rochester, N.Y./ Gates Chili) and CJ James (Victor, N.Y./ Victor). Payton dropping 18 points, while James contributed 13 in the first half. Payton went a perfect 2 for 2 from three, while James was a perfect 6 for 6 from the field.

In the end, the Lakers came away with the 92-81 victory in their final home game of the regular season. Payton finished with 21 points for the Lakers, to go along with 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals. James ended the night with a double-double, scoring 13 points, pulling in 11 rebounds and dishing out 2 assists. On defense, James swiped 1 steal and blocked 2 shot.

On 5 of 11 shooting, Jaisan Parker (Durham, N.C./ Bull City Prep) poured in 17 points, while dishing out 1 assist. On defense, Parker pulled in 2 rebounds and grabbed 2 steals. Sophomore night, Ben Waterman (Savannah, N.Y.) put together a monster game on Sophomore night, scoring 8 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, dishing out 7 assists, while on defense, Waterman blocked 2 shots and swiped 2 steals.

Coming off from the bench, Jevonte Williams (Rochester, N.Y./ Rush Henrietta) made the most of his minutes, scoring 17 points and adding 3 rebounds and 2 steals on defense. Joining Williams was Danny Amador (Naples, F.L./ Palmetto Ridge) who contributed 5 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal. Freshman Austin Franklin (Hunstville, A.L./ Prince George) added 8 points, 1 rebound and 1 steal in the start.

The Lakers finish a 2-game homestand, and shift their focus to a 4-game road stretch to round out their regular season. The Lakers next matchup is with the Spartans of Cayuga Community College on Wednesday, February 9th at 7 PM. The Lakers then travel to Onondaga, Jefferson and Tompkins Cortland Community College(s) to finish out the season.
