Lakers Fall Short in Region III Matchup

WATERTOWN, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College Men's Basketball team traveled to Watertown, N.Y. in a NJCAA Region III matchup with the Cannoneers of SUNY Jefferson. Despite a close matchup leading into the final stretch, the Cannoneers pulled away for a 71-67 victory over the Lakers. 

Laker Sophomore Jevonte Williams (Rochester, N.Y./ Rush Henrietta) enjoyed a 2nd-straight productive outing, recording 18 points and 5 dimes on offense, while pulling down 5 rebounds on defense. Lakers Freshman Devon Payton (Rochester, N.Y./ Gates Chili) led the Lakers in the scoring column, netting 23 points on 8-23 shooting. Payton also added 1 assist, 7 rebounds and 3 steals to round out his day. 

Lakers Freshman CJ James (Victor, N.Y./ Victor) put together a monstrous game on the defensive end of the ball, blocking a game-high 9 shots. In the process, James corraled a game-high 14 rebounds, while adding 9 points and 1 assist. Freshman Paxton Creek (Kalagoorie, Australia/ Eastern Goldfields) earned the start, going 3-6 from three, good for 9 points. Freshman Austin Franklin (Hunstville, A.L./ Prince George) added 5 points and 2 assists, while pulling in 8 rebounds and a block and steal apiece.

The Lakers conclude their regular season Tuesday, February 15th on the road in Dryden, N.Y. against the Panthers of Tompkins Cortland Community College at 7 PM where they look to pick up a big win against their Mid-State Athletic Conference opponent.
