Lakers Drop Close One at Home

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Lakers hosted Onondaga Community College on Saturday, November 12th for NJCAA Region III contest on the Putt Moore Court. The regional and conference foes went toe for toe in the 1st-half.

After an Alex Hill (Rochester, N.Y./ Fairport) made 3-pointer, the Lakers would jump out to an early 9-5 lead. After costly fouls put the Lakers in the bonus, the Lazers would sink a free throw to tie the game 27-27 with 8 minutes remaining. The Lazers would hold the advantage heading into the 2nd-half, leading 47-42. Just like the first, the two teams would battle back and forth, and the Lakers were unable to pull ahead, ultimately falling 90-81.

Sophomore Jevonte Williams (Rochester, N.Y./ Rush Henrietta) led the team in scoring with 22, Williams added 9 rebounds, 5 assists, and a steal to his tally in an impressive stat line. Freshman Alex Hill sunk four 3-pointers and finished with 19 points. Hill added 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 block as well. 

Freshman Juan Navedo (New Britain, C.T./ Cornerstone Charter Academy) played his first game of the season in front of the home crowd, finishing with five made 3-pointers (75% from 3). Freshman Pacey Hopkins (Avoca, N.Y./ Avoca) helped set up his teamates with 6 assists to go along with 2 points.

The Lakers are at Genesee Community College on Thursday, September 17th at 6 PM for their next game.
