Lakers Round Out Home Stand With a Win

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College men's basketball team picked up another big win at home to conclude their three-game home stand, 2-1. Despite an early lead by the Spartans, the Lakers would pull away in the second half to earn an 84-79 win.

Freshman Jaquan Shears (Rochester, N.Y./Monroe) was the driving force behind the Lakers' offense, racking up a game-high 24 points in a 10-for-19 shooting performance. Shears would go on to pull down 6 rebounds and dish out 2 assists in an all-around game. High school and now college teammate Davion Jones (Rochester, N.Y./Monroe) complemented Shears' performance with a solid 16 points, including a 4-for-8 effort from three-point territory. Jones' ability to stretch the floor was key to the Lakers' offense. Jones would go on to pull in 5 rebounds and lead the team with 5 assists.

Kyle Slywka (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) and Andrew Edwards-Ferrell (Rochester, N.Y./U Prep) made significant contributions to the win. Slywka's 11 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 blocks were indicative of his versatility. Edwards-Ferrell made his presence felt in the paint, pulling down 9 rebounds and adding 5 points to the Lakers' tally.

Off the bench, freshman Bruce Wilder Jr. (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) provided a spark with 8 points, including 2 three-pointers in 6 minutes of action. Slayde Huntley (Herrin, Illinois/Herrin) and Jaden Hartsfield (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Oddysey) added 7 and 6 points respectively in the win.

Up next for the Lakers is a road game with the Onondaga Community College Lazers on Tuesday, November 14th at 7:30 PM.
