Dominant Defense and Offense Propels Lakers to 97-72 Win

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - It was all FLCC from the tip on the Putt Moore Court where the Lakers hosted the St. John Fisher University Cardinals Tuesday evening in a non-region matchup. The Lakers delivered an impressive performance in a 97-72 win over the Cardinals; marked by high-scoring offense and tenacious defense.

Freshman Jaquan Shears (Rochester, N.Y./Monroe) led the scoring for the Lakers with 21 points on an efficient 9-for-17 shooting. His offensive output was crucial as he led the Lakers in the scoring column for a fourth-straight game. Shears went on to contribute on the defensive end with a block and 3 rebounds. Teammates Jaden Hartsfield (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Odyssey) and Felton Gray (Rochester, N.Y./Monroe) provided significant scoring boosts. Hartsfield racked up 17 points, shooting an impressive 7-for-11 from the field, and adding 5 rebounds. Gray, coming off the bench, matched Hartsfield's 17 points on an impressive, 8-for-9 shooting, his best performance thus far this season. Gray's performance on defense was noteworthy as he matched a team-high 3 blocks.

Freshman Kyle Slywka (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) added 13 points and led the Lakers in the rebounding category with 8 in the game. Slywka would put his playmaking abilities on display, dishing out 4 assists in the process while playing strong defense, adding 2 steals and 2 blocks to his stat line. Sophomore Andrew Edwards-Ferrell (Rochester, N.Y./U Prep) led the Lakers in the block category for a second-straight game, swatting 3 shots in the matchup. Edwards-Ferrell would contribute 5 points and 8 rebounds to his tally in another dominant performance.

The Lakers dominated the glass in the matchup, outrebounding St. John Fisher, 54-36, which included 18 offensive rebounds. The Lakers' defense proved the difference maker as the team racked up 13 blocks and 10 steals to disrupt the Cardinal offensive attack. The Lakers' dynamic offense was on full display, as 13 different players found the back of the net to cap off a dominant performance. Up next for the team is a road trip to Binghamton, N.Y. where the Lakers will take on the host SUNY Broome Hornets with tip-off scheduled for 6 PM.
