Lakers Drop Hard-Fought Battle on Home Court

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College men's basketball team put up a valiant effort against a battle-tested Erie Community College squad who entered the matchup with a record of 6-2. Despite jumping out to an early 10-2 lead, the Kats would rally back and take the lead and would never look back, defeating the Lakers 84-64.

Freshman Davion Jones (Rochester, N.Y./Monroe) led the scoring, dropping in 17 points in the first half and finishing with 19. Jones' highlight was his efficiency as he finished 6-for-10, including 1 three-pointer. The guard would also pick up an impressive 6 rebounds to cap off an impressive performance. Sophomore Andrew Edwards-Ferrell (Rochester, N.Y./U Prep) added 7 points and led the team with 8 rebounds. His presence was felt on the defensive end as he swatted 2 shots against a lengthy Erie squad.

Freshman Felton Gray (Rochester, N.Y./Monroe) was a spark off the bench, scoring 8 points and adding 4 rebounds to provide energy to the Lakers' offense down the stretch. Teammate Jace Brown (Red Creek, N.Y./Red Creek) contributed 4 points and 7 rebounds, and Jaquan Shears (Rochester, N.Y./Monroe) would finish with 5 points and 5 rebounds.

The Lakers will look to move on and learn from the loss as they prepare for a matchup this Saturday, December 9th at 4:30 PM against the Twins of Columbia-Greene Community College on the FLCC Putt Moore Court. The Game will mark the Lakers' final game of the Fall semester as students will head home for their mid-semester break. The Lakers will not return to action until the new year on January 13th, 2024 when they travel to Mohawk Valley Community College for a 2 PM tip-off.
