Lakers Open Second Semester With a Pair of Road Trips

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - After a lengthy period away from the hardwood, the Finger Lakes Community College men's basketball team returned from their mid-semester break for a three-game road trip featuring matchups with St. John Fisher University, #13 Mohawk Valley Community College, and Fulton-#14 Montgomery Community College.

The Lakers matchup with the Fisher Cardinals would not fall in their favor as their early-season meeting did, as the Cardinals pulled off a 97-92 win over the Lakers. The highlight of the game was the scoring performance from freshman Jaquan Shears (Rochester, N.Y./Monroe) who poured in a season-high 35 points against the Cardinals. Following the loss, the Lakers would hit the road to Utica, N.Y. to face the 13th-ranked team in NJCAA Division III at Mohawk Valley Community College. Despite trailing by 16 at the half, the Lakers would struggle to narrow the gap in a 99-69 loss to the Vikings.

In that game, Jaquan Shears and Jace Brown (Red Creek, N.Y./Red Creek) led the scoring with 13 points each. Shears would add 8 rebounds to his tally, while Brown shot an efficient 6-for-6 from the floor. Teammate James Reaves Jr. (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena) added 9 points, including two three-pointers. Sophomore Andrew Edwards-Ferrell (Rochester, N.Y./U Prep) contributed 8 points and 5 rebounds, showing his presence in the paint.

Coming off the bench, Romario Dunkley, Jaiden Lopez (Lyons, N.Y./Lyons), and Slayde Huntley (Herrin, IL./Herrin) provided a much-needed spark throughout the game.

The Lakers matchup on Sunday, January 14th against #14 Fulton-Montgomery Community College would be postponed due to inclement weather. With the postponement, the Lakers' next tilt will be back on the Putt Moore Court at FLCC where the Lakers will face a Mid-State Athletic Conference and Region III foe in Onondaga Community College. The Lakers and Lazers will tip off at 7 PM on Wednesday, January 17th.
