CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - In an impressive 102-point performance, the Lakers men's basketball team earned their first win of the new year, avenging an early-season loss to Onondaga Community College with a final score of 102-81. The Lakers commanded the offensive side of the ball and were led by Sophomore Slayde Huntley (Herrin, IL./Herrin) who put together a career night with an impressive 33 points. Beyond the arc, Huntley shot an efficient 5-for-10 while also pulling in 6 rebounds to round out an impressive game.
Freshman Jaquan Shears (Rochester, N.Y./Monroe) continued his impressive start to the new year with a double-double, adding 17 points and 13 rebounds to his tally. Shears' presence on the boards and in the paint was crucial to the Lakers' win. Teammate James Reaves Jr. (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena) put together a career performance, pouring 13 points and pulling down a career-high 13 rebounds. In an overall performance, Reaves Jr. dished out 5 assists to help set up his teammates. Sophomore Andrew Edwards-Ferrell (Rochester, N.Y./U Prep) added 13 points and 6 rebounds to go along with a block. Teammate Jace Brown (Red Creek, N.Y./Red Creek) shot a perfect 5-for-5 from the field, adding 11 points and 7 rebounds to his total.
Off the bench, Marvin Reed Jr. (Durham, N.C./Faith Assembly) provided valuable minutes, scoring 9 points, including a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Jaiden Burlee (Ontario, N.Y./Wayne) contributed 5 points and 7 rebounds to play a key role in the rotation. With the win, the Lakers snap a 7-game losing streak and will look to carry their momentum into a road game this Saturday, January 20th at Tompkins Cortland Community College. The Lakers will then return home on Sunday, January 21st for a matchup with the Hornets from SUNY Broome Community College.
